In this full-day workshop, PhD candidates will get the chance to present their research project and receive feedback. Silke Boenigk (Hamburg University), Alison Body (University of Kent), and Arjen de Wit (VU Amsterdam) will mentor a selection of PhD candidates in different stages of their dissertation research.
PhD candidates will get the chance to present their research project and receive feedback. Participants will be asked to hand in prior to the workshop a short abstract (500 words) of their research project and a short summary (300 words) of the main topic they want to discuss at the workshop. These abstracts will be distributed to all participants in advance. The participants will be grouped by advancement of their project, e.g. early stage (year 1-2) and advanced (year 3+). Every PhD student gets 30 minutes (10 minutes presentation/ 20 minutes discussion). The idea is that the PhD candidates pitch one or two topics that they are concerned with at the moment, combined with interactive learning from peers and faculty members. At the end of the workshop, faculty members will discuss how to deal with reviewer responses in the publication process and the workshop will end with a section of Q&A for general issues of writing a PhD or other relevant issues. Candidates from all nations and all disciplines are welcome to apply.
In case your institution is not able to cover your costs to attend the workshop, ERNOP can provide a limited number travel and accommodation grants of up to 350 euros.
Guidelines for proposals:
Please submit your application for participation here by July 10, 2021.
The application should be containing :
– A short (250 words) motivation letter by the applicant, explaining what the candidate expects to learn from the workshop.
– An abstract (500 words) of their research project.
– A short summary (300 words) of the main topic they want to discuss at the workshop (these abstracts will be distributed to all participants in advance).
Participation is free of charge, but admission limited, and registration required.
