University of Heidelberg, Germany.

Practical information:

Practical information regarding the location, hotels and local transportation will be made available here.

Participation contribution:

Participation in the ERNOP PhD workshop is free of charge, but registration and ERNOP membership is required.

Why:

The future of our field of research is in the hands of our students. Investing in the next generation of researchers is an important instrument to increase the quality of research.

Therefore, we are happy to announce that ERNOP is organizing a pre-conference, full-day workshop for PhD candidates. Michaela Neumary (WU Vienna, Austria), Oonagh Breen (UCD Sutherland School of Law, Ireland) and Rene Bekkers (VU Amsterdam, the Netherlands) will mentor a selection of PhD candidates in different stages of their dissertation research.

In this workshop, PhD candidates will get the chance to present their research project and receive feedback. A few weeks before the event, participants will be asked to hand in a working paper (short or full paper) from their research project. To apply, we invite candidates to provide an abstract (500 words) of their project, and a short summary (300 words) of the main topic they want to discuss at the workshop. We will share all summaries and working papers in advance of the workshop.

Every PhD student will get 30 minutes (10 minutes presentation + 20 minutes discussion) and focus on one or two aspects that they want feedback on from their peers and faculty members. At the end of the workshop, a Q&A session will be proposed and faculty members will offer guidance on key issues faced by PhD students (e.g., writing their thesis, dealing with reviewers’ feedback, preparing their job search, etc.)

For who:

Candidates from all nations and all disciplines are welcome to apply. In case your institution is not able to cover your costs to attend the workshop, ERNOP can provide a limited number travel and accommodation grants of up to 250 euros.

  • ERNOP Student Membership or ERNOP Institutional Membership is required to register. Become a member here.
