The Insititute for Philosophy and Social Theory at the University of Belgrade was established in 1992 and has its headquarters in Belgrade, Serbia. Major academic disciplines are philosophy, sociology, anthropology, and political sciences. Key research topics are philanthropy, solidarity, systems of care, common good, local civic initiatives, Serbia.
Research questions addressed by the institute are, among others:
- What forms do philanthropy, solidarity, and care take in Serbia and Southeastern Europe, and what factors drive them?
- Who bears responsibility for ensuring the provision and quality of social welfare?
- What is the role of mutual-aid groups as needs escalate?
- What is the reach of local initiatives for the public good, and where do their limits appear?
- How do institutional frameworks, social norms, and political strategies shape the recognition, treatment, and legitimization of pain, suffering, and discrimination?
