The Insititute for Philosophy and Social Theory at the University of Belgrade was established in 1992 and has its headquarters in Belgrade, Serbia. Major academic disciplines are philosophy, sociology, anthropology, political sciences, and legal studies. Key research topics are solidarity, care, philanthropy, welfare, and justice. Research questions addressed by the institute are, among others:

  • What are the expressions and driving forces behind philanthropy, solidarity, and care?
  • Who defines individuals or groups in need of care and support, and how is this determined?

  • Is caring for others an act of goodwill or a question of justice?

  • What would an ethically and socially sensitive, effective crowdfunding framework for medical expenses look like in Serbia, and how might it contribute to systemic healthcare reforms?

  • How do institutional frameworks, social norms, and political strategies shape the recognition, treatment, and legitimization of pain, suffering, and discrimination?
