ERNOP Opens Applications for the 2027 Pre-conference PhD Workshop

The European Research Network on Philanthropy (ERNOP) invites applications for its full-day PhD Workshop on 30 June 2027 at the University of Geneva, Switzerland, ahead of ERNOP’s 13th International Conference.

The workshop offers doctoral researchers at different stages of their dissertation the opportunity to present their work, receive focused feedback and connect with fellow researchers. Participants will be mentored by Michaela Neumayr (WU Vienna, Austria), Marlene Walk (University of Freiburg, Germany) and Dominik Meier (University of Basel, Switzerland).

Workshop format

Each participant will have a dedicated 30-minute session: a 10-minute presentation followed by 20 minutes of discussion, focusing on one or two aspects of their research on which they would particularly welcome feedback from peers and faculty.

Participants will be asked to submit a short or full working paper a few weeks before the workshop. Summaries and working papers will be shared in advance to support informed discussion.

The workshop will conclude with a Q&A session addressing challenges faced by PhD students, such as writing their dissertation, responding to reviewers’ feedback and preparing for their job search.

Eligibility and financial support

PhD candidates from all countries and academic disciplines are welcome to apply. Participation is free of charge, but places are limited and ERNOP membership and registration is required.

For participants whose institutions cannot cover the costs of attending, ERNOP can provide a limited number of travel and accommodation grants of up to €250.

Application guidelines

Candidates should submit their application as one PDF, containing:

  1. A motivation letter of 250 words, explaining what they expect to learn from the workshop.
  2. An abstract of 500 words, describing their research project.
  3. A summary of 300 words, outlining the main topic they would like to discuss at the workshop.

The application deadline is 14 February 2027. Applicants will be notified of acceptance by 14 March 2027.
